Le nylon est le nom d'une matière plastique de type polyamide utilisée comme fibre textile ; il fut inventé le par Wallace Carothers qui travaillait alors chez DuPont, une entreprise de chimie américaine. Il est obtenu par condensation à chaud d'un corps possédant deux fonctions acides et d'un corps dérivé de l'ammoniaque.

Nylon (nazwa pochodzi od nazw miast New York i London, gdzie naukowcy pracowali nad polimerem) - syntetyczny polimer, rodzaj poliamidu służący do wytwarzania włókna syntetycznego o bardzo dużej wytrzymałości na rozciąganie i łatwo dającego się barwić. Stosowany przede wszystkim do produkcji dzianintkaninlin i żyłek.

Il nylon è una famiglia di polimeri sintetici (poliammidi), il cui capostipite - il nylon 6,6 - fu messo a punto il 28 febbraio 1935 da  Wallace Carothers alla DuPont di Wilmington, Delaware (USA). I nylon sono usati soprattutto come fibra tessile e per produrre piccoli manufatti.Nylon 6,6: (formula bruta C12H22N2O2) è il prodotto della polimerizzazione per condensazione di esametilendiammina e acido adipico; è il nylon per antonomasia ed è il più diffuso.Nylon 6: è il prodotto della polimerizzazione per condensazione del caprolattame.
