null hypothesis

In statistics, a null hypothesis is a hypothesis set up to be nullified or refuted in order to support an alternate hypothesis. When used, the null hypothesis is presumed true until statistical evidence in the form of a hypothesis test indicates otherwise. In science, the null hypothesis is used to test differences in treatment and control groups, and the assumption at the outset of the experiment is that no difference exists between the two groups for the variable being compared.

Unter Hypothese versteht man in der Statistik eine anhand empirischer Daten zu prüfende Annahme. Man unterscheidet als Gegensatzpaar Nullhypothese, H0, und Alternativhypothese, HA oder H1. Häufig sagt die Nullhypothese aus, dass ein bestimmter Zusammenhang nicht besteht. Diese These soll verworfen werden, so dass die Alternativhypothese als möglich (wahrscheinlich) übrig bleibt. Diese Logik verwirrt den Anwender oft, sodass auch der umgekehrte Weg möglich ist, die Nullhypothese wird als richtig angenommen.

De nulhypothese in de statistiek is een veronderstelling over (een of meer parameters van) een kansverdeling, waarvan men de juistheid betwijfelt. Door middel van een statistische toets wordt de juistheid onderzocht door te trachten met statistische gegevens in de vorm van een steekproef het tegendeel aan te tonen.

É uma hipótese que você está interessado em confrontar com os factos. Muitas vezes é uma afirmação quanto a um parâmetro que é propriedade de uma população, sendo que é impossível observar toda a população, e o teste é baseado na observação de uma amostra aleatória da população. Tal parâmetro é frequentemente a média ou o desvio padrão.
