Nobility
The nobility is a social class distinguished by high hereditary or honorary rank that possesses privileges, or eminence, and certain rights not granted to members of other classes in a society. The privileges of the nobility often comprise substantial real advantages, including rights of access, that vary from country to country and era to era. Traditional membership in the nobility is highly regulated by monarchist governments, which grant the ranks and titles to members of the elite. However, the noble class is not a closed order, and throughout history, membership has been perpetually renewed.

Adel
Der Adel (lat.: nobilitas, althochdeutsch: Abstammung, Geschlecht) ist eine in den meisten Ländern Europas untergegangene privilegierte Gesellschaftsschicht. In feudalen Ständeordnungen war sie die herrschende soziale Schicht (Stand), gegründet auf Geburt, Besitz, Zuerkennung und gelegentlich auf Leistung. Sie hatte besondere Lebensformen und ein hoch entwickeltes Standesethos.

Noblesse
La noblesse est le terme qui désigne primitivement les différentes institutions liées au métier des armes et de la guerre, aussi bien en ce qui concerne ses personnels, que ses arts, ses mobiles et ses actions. Par extension, la noblesse désigne un sentiment ou une attitude chevaleresque ou désintéressée. Par la suite, la Noblesse (avec une majuscule) d'un pays ou d'une province désigne l'ensemble des familles dont les membres exercent ou peuvent exercer certaines fonctions de commandement militaire ou civils qui leur sont réservés (les emplois nobles).

Szlachta
Szlachta (z niem. Geschlecht) wyższa warstwa społeczna, wywodząca się ze stanu rycerskiego w społeczeństwie feudalnym.
Szeroko rozumiana warstwa szlachecka istniała we wszystkich społeczeństwach przedindustrialnych na całym świecie. W większości wypadków szlachta wywodziła się ze starszyzny plemiennej i kast wojowników społeczeństw plemiennych. Mimo braku kontaktów zadziwiająco podobne były stany szlacheckie w odległych krajach - n.p. europejską i japońską szlachtę łączy wiele analogii (rozwarstwienie stanu, elitarność, pojęcia honoru, służba wojskowa, herby)

Szlachta w Polsce
Szlachta – stan społeczny istniejący w Królestwie Polskim, Rzeczypospolitej Obojga Narodów oraz na polskich, litewskich i ukraińskich ziemiach w czasie rozbiorów. Powstała z przekształcenia się stanu rycerskiego w szlachecki.
Szlachta to określenie wywodzące się od niem. Geschlecht (ród), a zarazem od starodolnoniemieckiego slahta, co oznacza "rąbać". Do Polski słowo to przyszło z Czech, wraz z innymi słowami dotyczącymi kwestii administracyjnych państwa.
Szlachta posiadała szereg przywilejów oraz obowiązków. Dane tytuły szlacheckie na przeciągu wieków traciły i zyskiwały wartość i przywileje z nimi związane. Większość przywilejów szlacheckich zostało zabranych przez zaborców, a sam stan stracił swój status prawny w II Rzeczypospolitej. Przetrwała bogata kultura, tradycje, zabytki i rodziny szlacheckie.
