Nimis is a town of 2,817 located in the Italian
province of Udine, close to the border with Slovenia. It was founded by ancient Romans. Its name derives from the Latin word "Nemus". It is situated in front of Mount Bernadia, home to a World War One Italian Fort and a locally famous sweet white wine,
Ramandolo. During the second World War the town was burned by the SS. According to the census 1971 25,4% of the population are
Slovenians.
