The 2008 Kosovo declaration of independence was adopted on 17 February 2008 by members of the Assembly of Kosovo. These members of the Assembly, acting as "the democratically elected leaders of the people", and not representing the Assembly itself or the Provisional Institutions of Self-Government, unanimously declared Kosovo to be independent from Serbia.
