Neuroscience is the scientific study of the nervous system. Traditionally, neuroscience has been seen as a branch of biology. However, it is currently an interdisciplinary science that collaborates with other fields such as  chemistry, computer science, engineering, linguistics, mathematics, medicine and allied disciplines, philosophy, physics, and psychology. The term neurobiology is usually used interchangeably with the term neuroscience, although the former refers specifically to the biology of the nervous system, whereas the latter refers to the entire science of the nervous system.

Die Neurowissenschaften sind ein Sammelbegriff für biologische, physikalische, medizinische und psychologische Wissenschaftsbereiche, die den Aufbau und die Funktionsweise von Nervensystemen untersuchen.

Les neurosciences regroupent toutes les sciences nécessaires à l'étude de l'anatomie et du fonctionnement du système nerveux. Le système nerveux regroupe différents organes dont le cerveau, la moelle épinière, les nerfs, les organes des sens et le système nerveux autonome qui contrôle l'homéostasie. Les débuts de l'usage du terme de neurosciences sont très récents ce qui fait que le regroupement actuel de faits antérieurs à l'usage de ce mot peut paraître arbitraire.

Neurovetenskap är en sedan 1970-talet använd samlingsbenämning för all vetenskap som sysslar med nervsystemets byggnad och funktioner.

Neurobiologia jest to hasło opisujące różne nauki biologiczne badające układ nerwowy. Do najważniejszych z tych dziedzin można zaliczyć neuroanatomię (makroskopową i mikroskopową) oraz neurofizjologię (również behawioralną).
