Āstika ( ; "it (heaven) exists") and Nāstika (, ; "it doesn't exist") are technical terms in Hinduism used to classify philosophical schools and persons, according to whether they accept the authority of the Vedas as supreme revealed scriptures, or not, respectively. By this definition, Nyāyá, Vaiśeṣika, Sāṃkhya, Yoga, Mimāṃsā and Vedānta are classified as āstika schools; and some schools like Cārvāka, Jainism and Buddhism are considered nāstika. The distinction is similar to the orthodox/heterodox distinction in the West.

Nastika (Sanskrit: , ; "Verneiner", von na-asti: ‚ist nicht‘) ist ein Fachbegriff in der hinduistischen Philosophie. Das Wort kommt als Substantiv und auch in adjektivischer Verwendung vor. Als Substantiv bezeichnet Nastika einen "Ungläubigen" oder "Theoretiker der Nichtexistenz". Gemeint ist jemand, der die Autorität der Veden nicht akzeptiert und insbesondere die Existenz von Göttern und die Wirksamkeit der Rituale der vedischen Religion bestreitet. Daher wird Nastika manchmal mit "Atheist" übersetzt.
