In the academic fields of mythology, mythography, or folkloristics, a myth (mythos) is a sacred story concerning the origins of the world or how the world and the creatures in it came to have their present form. The active beings in myths are generally gods and heroes. Myths often are said to take place before recorded history begins. In saying that a myth is a sacred narrative, what is meant is that a myth is believed to be true by people who attach religious or spiritual significance to it. Use of the term by scholars does not imply that the narrative is either true or false. See also legend and tale.

Un mythe est un récit, porté à l'origine par une tradition orale, qui propose une explication pour certains aspects fondamentaux du monde : sa création (cosmogonie), les phénomènes naturels, le statut de l'être humain, ses rapports avec le divin, la nature ou encore avec les autres humains (d'un autre sexe, d'un autre groupe), etc.

Die Mythologie ist die systematische Beschäftigung mit Mythen oder deren systematische Darlegung in literarischer, wissenschaftlicher oder religiöser Form. Mythologie kann daher weiter gefasst sein als nur die Gesamtheit der Mythen eines Volkes, einer Region oder einer sozialen Gruppe. Sehr häufig wird der Begriff aber genau so verwendet, als Gesamtheit der Mythen nach der Zugehörigkeit zu einer Kultur bzw. Region (in dieser Bedeutung früher auch Sagenwelt genannt). Daneben kann man auch Mythen zu verschiedenen Themen kulturübergreifend behandeln. Man erhält so Unterteilungen wie z.B. Landschaftsmythologie, Astralmythologie, Zahlenmythologie, Eschatologie.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology to jedna z najbardziej prestiżowych uczelni technicznych świata. MIT powstała w 1861 roku z inicjatywy kilkudziesięciu przedsiębiorców z okolic Nowego Jorku i Bostonu. Jej celem jest jednoczesne kształcenie studentów i prowadzenie badań podstawowych - jednak silnie zorientowanych na praktyczne potrzeby społeczne. MIT jest uczelnią całkowcie prywatną. Z punktu widzenia prawa jest spółką akcyjną, której akcje posiada obecnie kilkaset osób - głównie członków rodzin założycieli MIT oraz jej absolwentów, którym udało się osiągnąć sukces finansowy.

Mit ( mythos - "myśl, zamysł, temat rozmowy, opowieść, baśń") – opowieść o otaczającym ludzkość świecie, opisująca historię  bogów, demonów, legendarnych bohaterów oraz historię stworzenia człowieka. Próbowała ona dać wyjaśnienie odwiecznych zagadnień bytu ludzkiego, mistyki, fascynacji śmiercią, życia i śmierci, dobra i zła, sensu ludzkiego bytu. Opowieści mityczne są przejawem wczesnego stadium rozwoju doktryny religijnej, tzw. etapu mitycznego.

Mitologia (dal greco mythos e logein; letteralmente: discorrere in maniera razionale del racconto poetico) è il termine con cui si indica lo studio - riferito di frequente alle singole religioni - dei miti. Disciplina considerata fenomeno culturale assai complesso, la mitologia può essere analizzata sotto diverse prospettive; il suo corpus è comunque dato dall'insieme di narrazioni - quasi sempre orali, spesso letterarie - e da drammatizzazioni e rappresentazioni di tipo figurativo che mettono a fuoco le vicende di personaggi esterni al tempo inteso in senso storico.
