Music is an art form whose medium is sound and silence. In many practical signal processing problems, the objective is to estimate from measurements a set of constant parameters upon which the received signals depend. However, although the performance advantages of MUSIC are substantial, they are achieved at a cost in computation (searching over parameter space) and storage (of array calibration data).

Aus dem Zusammenklang mehrerer Töne von jeweils anderer Tonhöhe erwächst Mehrstimmigkeit, aus den Beziehungen der Töne untereinander entsteht Harmonik. Die begriffliche Erfassung, systematische Darstellung der Zusammenhänge und deren Deutung leistet die Musiktheorie, die ihrerseits in der Musikpädagogik gelehrt wird.
