The word is cognate with forms meaning 'death' in other Semitic languages: with Hebrew מות (moth or maveth); with Canaanite, Egyptian Aramaic, Nabataean, and Palmyrene מות (mwt); with Jewish Aramaic, Christian Palestinian Aramaic, and Samaritan מותא (mwt’); with Syriac mautā; with Mandaean muta; with Akkadian mūtu; with Arabic maut; with Ge'ez mot. Although Semitic languages are not closely related to Indo-European languages, the words for death in Sanskrit ('mrit') and Latin ('mortus') are similar.

The Ministry of Transport test (more usually: MOT - pronounced by spelling out the letters) is an annual test of car safety and aspects applicable to most vehicles over a certain age in the United Kingdom if they are used on public roads.The name derives from the Ministry of Transport, a defunct Government department which was one of several ancestors of the current Department for Transport, but is still officially used. The MOT test certificates are currently issued in Great Britain under the auspices of the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA), an agency within the Department for Transport. Certificates in Northern Ireland are issued by the Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA).

Er wurde als Todfeind des Gottes Ba'al betrachtet. Im sog. Baal-Zyklus wird Baals Abstieg in die Unterwelt geschildert, aus der er nach einer kämpferischen Auseinandersetzung mit Mot durch die Göttin Anath wieder befreit wird.

Eine magneto-optische Falle (engl. magneto-optical trap, MOT) ist ein Hilfsmittel der Atomphysik, welches zur Kühlung und Speicherung von neutralen Atomen benutzt wird. Kühlung bedeutet hier Abbremsen der Atome, da sich die Temperatur eines einzelnen Atoms durch seine kinetische Energie, also seine Geschwindigkeit ausdrückt -- genauer: Befindet sich eine "große Anzahl" von Teilchen (Atome, Moleküle, etc. ) im thermischen Gleichgewicht, so kann die mittlere kinetische Energie eines Teilchens durch eine Temperatur ausgedrückt werden.

Moët & Chandon (IPA: [moˈɛt‿e ʃɑ̃ˈdɔ̃]) ist ein Hersteller und Marktführer des alkoholischen Getränks Champagner mit Sitz in Épernay, Frankreich. Die Unternehmensgeschichte geht bis auf das Jahr 1743 zurück, als Claude Moët (1683–1760) begann, Wein aus der Champagne nach Paris zu exportieren. Im Jahr 1794 kaufte Jean-Remy Moët das Kloster Hautvillers, in dem der Mönch Dom Pérignon angeblich den Champagner erfunden hat und Moët begann diesen schon bald in andere europäische Länder und in die Vereinigten Staaten zu exportieren. 1832 erweiterte Moët den Firmennamen um den Namen „Chandon“, da er die Hälfte des Unternehmens an seinen Sohn Victor Moët und seinen Schwiegersohn Pierre-Gabriel Chandon de Briailles übergab.
