Monotypic taxon
In biology, a monotypic taxon is a taxonomic group with only one biological type. The term's usage differs slightly between botany and zoology. The term monotypic has a separate use in conservation biology, monotypic habitat, regarding species habitat conversion eliminating biodiversity and restoration ecology concerning a dominant invasive biological type.

Monotypisch
Der biologische Fachbegriff monotypisch (gr.  mónos „allein“ und -typisch) besagt, dass innerhalb einer Gruppe (Taxon) in der biologischen Systematik nur eine einzige Art vorkommt. Wenn eine Familie nur eine Gattung enthält, spricht man analog dazu von monogenerisch.

Un taxon monotypique ou unispécifique (parfois monospécifique) est un taxon dont on ne connaît qu'une seule espèce. En général, on n’a établi qu'un seul holotype.

Monotypisch
Het bijvoeglijk naamwoord monotypisch wordt gebruikt in de biologie. Het betekent dat een taxon maar één soort (of andere onderverdeling) telt. Voorbeelden van monotypische geslachten zijn:

Een voorbeeld van een monotypische familie is de Tarsipedidae, de slurfbuidelmuis. Ook families met één geslacht, maar meerdere soorten, zoals de spleetneusvleermuizen (Nycteridae; enige geslacht Nycteris), worden wel als "monotypisch" aangeduid.

Een synoniem voor "monotypisch" is "unispecifiek". Dit is eigenlijk zuiverder, omdat één soort evenveel types zal omvatten als ze infraspecieke taxa telt (zoals ondersoorten). Deze aanduiding wordt echter minder vaak gebruikt.
