Millipedes are arthropods that have two pairs of legs per segment (except for the first segment behind the head which does not have any appendages at all, and the next few which only have one pair of legs). Each segment that has two pairs of legs is a result of two single segments fused together as one. Most millipedes have very elongated cylindrical bodies, although some are flattened dorso-ventrally, while pill millipedes are shorter and can roll into a ball, like a pillbug.

Die Doppelfüßer (Diplopoda) sind eine Klasse der Gliederfüßer (Arthropoda) und werden bei den Tausendfüßern (Myriapoda) eingeordnet. Weltweit sind etwa 10.000 Arten dieser Tiere bekannt, damit stellen sie die größte Gruppe der Tausendfüßer dar. Man geht gemeinhin davon aus, dass ein Vielfaches der bekannten Arten existiert und noch auf seine Entdeckung durch Spezialisten harrt.

Les diplopodes (Diplopoda), plus connus sous le nom de « mille-pattes », sont une classe d'arthropodes myriapodes. Nocturnes ou lucifuges, ils vivent (exceptionnellement en colonies denses) sous les pierres, dans le sol, dans le bois mort et en décomposition et dans les endroits humides. Comme les vers de terre, mais moins profondément, les diplopodes contribuent à la formation de l'humus, forestier notamment, ainsi qu'à l'aération du sol et au brassage de ses couches superficielles et de la matière ligneuse en décomposition.

Dubbelfotingar (Diplopoda) är leddjur och hör till gruppen mångfotingar, och till skillnad från enkelfotingar har de två par ben per segment.

Dwuparce (Diplopoda; wcześniejsza nazwa krocionogi, obecnie wskazująca raczej na krocionogowate) – gromada wijów obejmująca stawonogi o jednej parze szczęk i tułowiu zbudowanym z 11-120 segmentów, na których znajdują się parzyste odnóża kroczne. Na segmentach 2-4 znajduje się po 1 parze odnóży, na pozostałych po 2 pary (stąd nazwa gromady). Otwory płciowe znajdują się z przodu tułowia, co było przyczyną, dla której zaliczano kiedyś dwuparce do przodopłciowych. Większość dwuparców to formy niewielkie; w tropikach spotyka się jednak również dwuparce osiągające 30 cm długości. Zwierzęta kosmopolityczne, występują na wszystkich kontynentach poza okolicami okołobiegunowymi i pustyniami.
