Methodology
Methodology is defined as "the analysis of the principles of methods, rules, and postulates employed by a discipline" or"the development of methods, to be applied within a discipline""a particular procedure or set of procedures". . It should be noted that methodology is frequently used when method would be more accurate. For example, "Since students were not available to complete the survey about academic success, we changed our methodology and gathered data from instructors instead". In this instance the methodology (gathering data via surveys, and the assumption that this produces accurate results) did not change, but the method (asking teachers instead of students) did.

1. <programming> An organised, documented set of procedures and guidelines for one or more phases of the software life cycle, such as analysis or design. Many methodologies include a diagramming notation for documenting the results of the procedure; a step-by-step "cookbook" approach for carrying out the procedure; and an objective (ideally quantified) set of criteria for determining whether the results of the procedure are of acceptable quality.
