The metatarsus or metatarsal bones are a group of five long bones in the foot located between the tarsal bones of the hind- and mid-foot and the phalanges of the toes. Lacking individual names, the metatarsal bones are numbered from the medial side (side of big toe): the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth metatarsal. The metatarsals are analogous to the metacarpal bones of the hand.

Die Mittelfußknochen – lateinisch Ossa metatarsalia (Mehrzahl) bzw. Os metatarsale (Einzahl) – befinden sich im Fuß zwischen der Fußwurzel und den Zehen. Der Mensch hat an jedem Fuß fünf Mittelfußknochen, die von innen (medial) nach außen (lateral) mit den Zahlen 1 bis 5 nummeriert werden. So wird der Mittelfußknochen, der am inneren Fußrand von der Fußwurzel bis zur Großzehe läuft, als erster Mittelfußknochen bezeichnet. Zusammen mit der Großzehe bildet der erste Mittelfußknochen den sogenannten ersten Strahl. Entsprechend bilden alle weiteren Mittelfußknochen zusammen mit den daran anschließenden Zehen den zweiten, dritten, vierten und fünften Strahl.
