The mesosphere (; from Greek mesos = middle and sphaira = ball) is the layer of the Earth's atmosphere that is directly above the stratosphere and directly below the thermosphere. In the mesosphere temperature decreases with increasing height. The upper boundary of the mesosphere is the mesopause, which can be the coldest naturally occurring place on Earth with temperatures below 130 K. The exact upper and lower boundaries of the mesosphere vary with latitude and with season, but the lower boundary of the mesosphere is usually located at heights of about 50 km above the Earth's surface and the mesopause is usually at heights near 100 km, except at middle and high latitudes in summer where it descends to heights of about 85 km.

Die Mesosphäre (von griechisch μέση, mésē „Mitte“ und σφαίρα, sphaíra „Kugel“) ist die mittlere der fünf Schichten der Erdatmosphäre und Teil von Ionosphäre und Homosphäre.

La mésosphère est la couche de l'atmosphère terrestre comprise entre 50 km d'altitude, au-dessus de la stratosphère et 90 km d'altitude. La frontière avec la couche supérieure s'appelle la mésopause. Dans cette couche, la température décroît avec l'augmentation de l'altitude. C'est à sa limite supérieure qu'on trouve les températures les plus basses de l'atmosphère terrestre : elle peut atteindre 200 kelvin, soit -73°C.

Mesosfär (från grekiskan mesos = mellan och sphaira = klot) är lagret i jordens atmosfär direkt över ozonlagret och direkt under termosfären. Mesosfären ligger mellan 50 km och 80-85 km ovanför jordytan - den övre gränsen kallas för mesopausen. Inom mesosfären minskar temperaturen med höjden. Eftersom mesosfären ligger ovanför den maximala höjden för flygplan och samtidigt under den minimala höjden för rymdfarkoster är den en av de minst utforskade delarna av atmosfären - mesosfären kan utforskas enbart genom fjärranalys eller via ballongburna sonder.

Mezosfera – warstwa atmosfery ziemskiej znajdująca się na wysokości od 45-50 km do 80-85 km między stratosferą, a mezopauzą, w której temperatura powietrza maleje wraz ze wzrostem wysokości (od ok. 0°C do ok. –70°C). W pobliżu jej górnej granicy czasami w nocy można zaobserwować tzw. "obłoki świecące", inaczej "obłoki srebrzyste". Ciśnienie poniżej 1 hPa. W termosferze gaz jest bardzo rozrzedzony, ale silnie nagrzany przez docierające tu bez większych przeszkód promieniowanie słoneczne.
