Meninges
The meninges (singular meninx from the Greek μῆνιγξ, "membrane") is the system of membranes which envelopes the central nervous system. In mammals, the meninges consist of three layers: the dura mater, the arachnoid mater, and the pia mater. The primary function of the meninges and of the cerebrospinal fluid is to protect the central nervous system.

Hirnhaut
Als die Hirnhaut (fachsprachlich die Meninx encephali, Plural Meningen, von griechisch μῆνιγξ, méninx - Hirnhaut) bezeichnet man die Bindegewebsschichten, die das Gehirn umgeben und in die Rückenmarkshaut übergehen, welche den Rest des Zentralnervensystems (ZNS) umgibt. Sie wurde erstmals von Herophilos von Chalkedon etwa 300 v. Chr. beschrieben.

Méninge
Les méninges sont les membranes qui enveloppent :
- le système nerveux central (SNC) ;
- la portion intracrânienne des nerfs crâniens ;
- les racines des nerfs spinaux.

Meningi
Le meningi sono un sistema di membrane che, all'interno del cranio, rivestono il sistema nervoso centrale, e proteggono l'encefalo.
Sono involucri connettivali membranosi costituiti di 3 lamine concentriche denominate, dall'esterno all'interno, dura madre (o dura meninge), aracnoide, e pia madre (o pia meninge).
Per la loro derivazione embrionale possono anche essere chiamate Meninge Dura (dura madre) e Leptomeninge la quale è composta dall'aracnoide e dalla pia madre.
