melting point
fusing point, smelting point, lowest temperature at which a solid piece of material can be smelted
Melting point
The melting point of a
crystalline solid is the temperature range at which it changes
state from solid to
liquid. Although the phrase would suggest a specific temperature and is commonly and incorrectly used as such in most textbooks and literature, most crystalline compounds actually melt over a range of a few degrees or less. At the melting point the solid and liquid phase exist in equilibrium. When considered as the temperature of the reverse change from liquid to solid, it is referred to as the freezing point.

melting point
Noun
1. the temperature below which a liquid turns into a solid
(synonym) freezing point
(hypernym) temperature
freezing point (standard melting point; normal melting point; melting point)
(mp) The temperature at which the
vapor pressure of a liquid is equal to the vapor pressure of the corresponding solid form. The liquid and solid forms can coexist at equilibrium at the freezing point. The standard melting point is the melting point at
standard pressure .
