melanoma

Melanoma is a malignant tumor of melanocytes which are found predominantly in skin but also in the bowel and the eye (see uveal melanoma). It is one of the rarer types of skin cancer but causes the majority of skin cancer related deaths. Despite many years of intensive laboratory and clinical research, the sole effective cure is surgical resection of the primary tumor before it achieves a thickness greater than 1 mm.

Das maligne Melanom (von gr. μέλας „schwarz“), auch schwarzer Hautkrebs (engl.: malignant melanoma) genannt, ist eine hochgradig bösartige (maligne) Entartung der Pigmentzellen (Melanozyten). Der Tumor neigt dazu, früh Metastasen über Lymph- und Blutbahnen zu streuen und gilt daher als äußerst gefährlich. Neben dem hier beschriebenen Melanom der Haut (cutanes Melanom) existieren weitere Arten des malignen Melanoms wie zum Beispiel das Bindehautmelanom und das Aderhautmelanom des Auges, die gewebespezifische Besonderheiten aufweisen.

Czerniak złośliwy (łac. melanoma malignum, ang. malignant melanoma) - złośliwy nowotwór skóry, błon śluzowych albo błony naczyniowej gałki ocznej, wywodzący się z komórek barwnikowych wytwarzających melaninę - melanocytów. Charakteryzuje się on dużą złośliwością z powodu szybkiego wzrostu, wczesnych i licznych przerzutów oraz niewielkiej podatności na leczenie.

Il melanoma è un tumore maligno che origina dal melanocita, cellula della cute che è preposta alla sintesi della melanina. Il melanoma può insorgere in tutti i distretti corporei in cui sono normalmente presenti i melanociti, quindi la cute ovviamente, ma anche le mucose, le meningi e l'occhio.
