match

A match is a consumable tool for lighting a fire under controlled circumstances on demand. Matches are readily available, being sold in tobacconists and other shops. Matches are rarely sold singly; they are sold in multiples, packaged in match boxes or matchbooks. A match is typically a wooden stick (usually sold in match boxes) or stiff paper stick (usually sold in matchbooks) coated at one end (the match head) with a material often containing the element phosphorus, which will ignite from the heat of friction if rubbed ("struck") against a suitable surface.

Mothers Apart from Their Children (MATCH) has existed since 1979 as a non-judgemental support group, run by volunteers who are, or have been, mothers separated from their children after divorce, family breakdown, care orders, adoption or abduction. Separation can last several months, years or decades. Sometimes forever. In September 2006 MATCH was granted charitable status.

Ein Streichholz oder Zündholz ist ein Holzstäbchen zum Anfachen eines  Feuers. Durch Reiben dessen Zündkopfes an einer Reibefläche entzündet sich dieser und bringt damit das Holzstäbchen zum Brennen.Die ersten praktisch einsetzbaren Streichhölzer kamen Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts auf den Markt. In der Anfangsphase enthielten sie toxische Stoffe wie weißen Phosphor oder Bleiverbindungen. Sicherheitszündhölzer gibt es seit ca. 1850.Streichhölzer haben gegenüber Gasfeuerzeugen den Vorteil, dass sie auch bei strengem Frost funktionieren.

I fiammiferi (singolare fiammifero ) sono un sistema semplice e pratico di procurarsi del fuoco in modo sicuro. Sono in genere dei bastoncini di legno o di altro materiale (ad esempio cartone o carta cerata arrotolata), con una estremità ricoperta di una sostanza infiammabile che si accende per sfregamento su una superficie ruvida. I fiammiferi di sicurezza (vedi seguito) si accendono solo se strofinati su una superficie opportuna, posizionata di solito sul lato esterno delle confezioni di tali fiammiferi.
