Marsupials are an infraclass of mammals living primarily in the Southern Hemisphere and carrying their young in a pouch. Well-known marsupials include kangaroos, koalas, possums, opossums, wombats and the Tasmanian devil. Marsupials represent the clade originating with the last common ancestor of extant metatherians. Like other mammals in the Metatheria, they are characterized by giving birth to relatively undeveloped young, often residing in a pouch with the parent for a certain time after birth. Close to 70% of the 334 extant species occur in Australia, New Guinea, and nearby islands, with the remaining 100 found in the Americas, primarily in South America, but with thirteen in Central America, and one in North America, north of Mexico.

Die Beutelsäuger oder Beuteltiere (Metatheria oder Marsupialia) bilden eine Unterklasse innerhalb der Säugetiere (Mammalia). Sie unterscheiden sich von den Höheren Säugetieren oder Plazentatieren (Eutheria) unter anderem darin, dass die Jungtiere in einem sehr frühen, embryoartigen Stadium geboren werden und anschließend oft in einem Beutel der Mutter heranwachsen. Heute leben in Australien und Amerika ungefähr 320 Beuteltierarten, das sind rund 6 Prozent aller rezenten Säugetierarten.

Le groupe des marsupiaux (Marsupialia), du grec marsipos « sac », est une sous-classe de mammifères, chez lesquels la femelle possède une poche abdominale, sauf exception, appelée aussi marsupium, dans laquelle elle porte son petit après sa naissance. Le petit nait dans un état de développement très incomplet, proche du fœtus, on le nomme larve marsupiale. Il reste dans cette poche, attaché à une mamelle de sa mère, jusqu'à ce qu'il puisse se nourrir par lui-même.

Pungdjur (Marsupialia, eller Metatheria om utdöda släktingar räknas med) är en infraklass av djur som tillhör klassen däggdjur.

Torbacze, workowce (Marsupialia) - lądowe ssaki niższe, do których zalicza się około 330 gatunków o różnorodnym wyglądzie i trybie życia, a także różnych preferencjach pokarmowych, zarówno drapieżnych jak owadożernych, roślinożernych i wszystkożernych. Najmniejsze torbacze mają rozmiary myszy, największe kopalne gatunki osiągały rozmiary nosorożca, natomiast największe współcześnie żyjące przewyższają wzrostem człowieka.
