maj

Máj is a romantic poem by Karel Hynek Mácha. It consists of four songs and two intermezzos. While it is considered one of the greatest works of Czech literature now, it was fiercely criticized when first published.

Major is a military rank the use of which varies according to country. Moreover, Major frequently denotes a mid-level command status officer (immediately superior to the rank of Captain and immediately subordinate to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel), however in some armies major is essentially a senior NCO (non-commissioned officer), a usage derived from "sergeant-major".

Major - stopień oficerski używany w armiach wielu krajów. W wojsku polskim jest to stopień niższy od podpułkownika, wyższy od kapitana. Major wchodzi w skład korpusu oficerów starszych, natomiast w okresie międzywojennym – w skład korpusu oficerów sztabowych. Odpowiednikiem majora w marynarce wojennej jest komandor podporucznik.
