Dans le domaine de l'informatique, Mac possède plusieurs connotations :- Mac est souvent utilisé comme diminutif de la marque Macintosh.
- MAC peut signifier "Media Access Control". On y retrouve aussi les adresses MAC (Media Access Control Address). Il s'agit d'un identifiant physique stocké dans une interface réseau et utilisé pour attribuer mondialement une adresse unique au niveau de la couche de liaison (couche 2 du modèle OSI).
- MAC peut également être l'acronyme de Mandatory Access Control (Contrôle d'accès obligatoire), un concept de sécurité informatique dont l'implémentation la plus connue à l'heure actuelle est SELinux.

Media Access Control
MAC eller Media Access Control, är ett underlager som tillsammans med LLC-lagret utgör OSI-modellens datalänkskikt. Lagret styr hur nätverksnoderna får åtkomst till OSI-modellens fysiska skikt.

MAC (ang. Media Access Control) – akronim posiadający szereg znaczeń w elektronice i informatyce:
- podwarstwa warstwy łącza danych (ang. Data Link Layer, DLL) w modelu OSI
- sprzętowy adres karty sieciowej Ethernet i Token Ring, unikalny w skali światowej, nadawany przez producenta danej karty podczas produkcji.

Macintosh
Firma chciała stworzyć łatwy w obsłudze komputer, który będzie w stanie obsłużyć każdy użytkownik bez specjalnej wiedzy informatycznej. W tym celu opracowano intuicyjny system operacyjny Mac OS, znany początkowo pod nazwą wyjaśniającą jego funkcję - "System" (tak był nazywany do wersji 7.5), zastąpiony w 2000 przez nowy system Apple'a - Mac OS X (spotykany także pod krótszą nazwą, OS X).
