Méthanier
Un méthanier est un navire servant à transporter du gaz naturel liquéfié dans ses citernes. On appelle ces navires aussi LNG (Liquefied natural gas) tankers. Il est livré dans des unités portuaires spécialisées dites « port méthanier »

Gazowiec
Gazowiec – statek przeznaczony do transportu skroplonego naturalnego gazu ziemnego – LNG (ang. Liquefied Natural Gas) lub skroplonego gazu porafinacyjnego – LPG (ang. Liquefied Petroleum Gas). Statki tego typu są w krajach anglojęzycznych nazywane LNG Carrier, LPG carrier; frankofońskich odpowiednio Méthanier, Propanier.

Metaniera
Le metaniere sono grandissime navi da carico specializzate nel trasporto del gas naturale liquido. La prima metaniera fu prodotta nel 1966.
La messa a punto di questo tipo di nave è stata realizzata dal francese Pierre Jean dal 1963 al 1967. Prima degli anni Sessanta il gas era trasportato in giganteschi barili sferici o cilindrici caricati nelle stive delle navi. Poiché il gas passa allo stato liquido a -163°C, bisognava utilizzare leghe speciali molto spesse (8-10 cm) per consentire ai barili di resistere al freddo.
