live album

A live album – commonly contrasted with a  studio album – is a recording consisting of material (usually music) recorded during stage performances. Live albums may be recorded at a single concert, or combine recordings made at multiple concerts. They usually have a less "finished" character than a studio album, and are intended to reproduce some of the experience of attending a concert performance. As such, they may include applause and other noise from the audience, comments by the performers between pieces, etc. They often employ  multitrack recording direct from the stage sound system (rather than microphones placed among the audience), and can employ additional manipulation and effects during post-production to enhance the quality of the recording.

LIVE (1984) is an album by the American ambient musician Robert Rich. This is the first live album recorded by Rich.This is the only solo album by Rich to be released on cassette only. Each release of this album features a clipping from Rich’s own EEG chart.

Ein Live-Album ist ein Musikalbum (z. B. eine  Audio-CD), das mit live aufgenommener Musik bespielt ist. Heute werden die Live-Alben zunehmend durch Video-DVDs ersetzt.Dies kann ein einzelnes Konzert sein, manchmal sind es auch Aufnahmen von verschiedenen Auftritten einer Tournee. Die Herstellung der Aufnahmen ist durch die Akustik und Dynamik vor Ort sehr aufwändig, nicht zuletzt auch deshalb, weil versucht wird, dem Hörer möglichst ein Gefühl zu vermitteln, als wäre er selbst dabei. Sehr häufig werden Konzertaufnahmen - über die unabdingbare Abmischung der Aufnahmen hinaus - nachträglich stark bearbeitet und damit die Konzertsituation verfälscht. So werden Gesang oder Instrumente durch Overdubs hinzugefügt, Applaus vom Band eingespielt, Songs gekürzt usw. Deshalb geben die meisten Live-Platten das Konzert nicht mehr in seiner ursprünglichen Form wieder.
