Littoral zone
The littoral zone is the part of a sea, lake or river that is close to the shore. In coastal environments the littoral zone extends from the high water mark, which is rarely inundated, to shoreline areas that are permanently submerged. It always includes this intertidal zone and is often used to mean the same as the intertidal zone. However, the meaning of "littoral zone" can extend well beyond the intertidal zone.

Littoral
Der Name Litoral oder Littoral (französisch) bezeichnet eine Küsten- oder Uferregion:
- ein Gebiet in Argentinien, welches die Landschaft Mesopotamia sowie die Provinzen Chaco, Formosa y Santa Fe umfasst, siehe Litoral (Argentinien)
- eine Provinz Äquatorialguineas, siehe Litoral (Mbini)
- ein Departement in Benin, siehe Littoral (Benin)
- eine Provinz in Bolivien, siehe Litoral (Oruro)
- ein Gebiet in Chile, auf das Bolivien Anspruch erhebt, siehe Litoral (Bolivien)
- eine Provinz in Kamerun, siehe Littoral (Kamerun)
- eine Region im Kanton Neuenburg (Schweiz)

Litoral
Litoral (zu lat. litus - Ufer, Küste) wird die Uferregion eines Sees oder Flusses wie auch die Küstenregion des Meeres genannt. Dieser zur randlichen, durchlichteten Bodenzone (Benthal) eines Gewässers gehörende Bereich oberhalb der trophischen Kompensationsebene ist biologisch hochproduktiv und beinhaltet eine artenreiche Fauna und Flora von hoher Individuendichte. Nicht zur eigentlichen Bodenzone gehört das landeinwärts gelegene Epilitoral oberhalb des Supralitorals. Der Einfluss des Gewässers ist hier nur noch mittelbar wirksam. Bei Gewässern, die von Gezeiten (Ebbe und Flut) beeinflusst werden, kann der Begriff Gezeitenzone analog zu Litoral angewendet werden.

Littoral
Le littoral est la région (l'endroit) qui se trouve au bord d'une mer, d'un océan, d'un lac. Selon les définitions retenues, le littoral s'étend de quelques centaines de mètres à plusieurs kilomètres de part et d'autre de la limite terre-eau.

Litoral
Litoral betecknar den del av en sjö eller ett hav som ligger närmast land. Litoralzonen ligger mellan hög- och lågvattenstånden.

Litoral
Litoral (od. łac. litus - brzeg) – strefa przylegająca do brzegu, lądu, charakteryzuje się najlepszymi warunkami życia w wodach (dużo światła, tlenu, mniejsze zasolenie, urozmaicona rzeźba dna). Według niektórych ujęć nazwa litoral dotyczy wyłącznie dna, bez znajdującej się nad nim wody.
W morzach i oceanach strefa ta obejmuje wody nad szelfem. Fauna tu żyjąca cechuje się największym bogactwem gatunkowym spośród wszystkich środowisk życia w wodach. Występują tam organizmy bierne unoszone przez wodę, czyli zooplankton, aktywnie się poruszające, czyli nekton (ryby, ssaki wodne, głowonogi) oraz zwierzęta żyjące na dnie - bentos, których skład gatunkowy zmienia się wraz z głębokością.
