liquidation

In law, liquidation refers to the process by which a company (or part of a company) is brought to an end, and the assets and property of the company redistributed. Liquidation can also be referred to as winding-up or dissolution, although dissolution technically refers to the last stage of liquidation.

Unter Liquidation (von lat. liquidus, „flüssig“) versteht man im betriebswirtschaftlichen und rechtswissenschaftlichen Zusammenhang den Verkauf aller Vermögensgegenstände eines Unternehmens oder Vereins mit dem Ziel, das darin gebundene Kapital in Bargeld oder andere leicht in Bargeld umtauschbare („liquide“) Mittel umzuwandeln. Liquidatie is een bedrijfseconomische term. Geld en bankrekeningen worden gezien als liquide middelen (vloeibare middelen), omdat men het makkelijk kan inzetten door bijvoorbeeld schulden af te betalen, een nieuw bedrijfsmiddel te kopen, of het als dividend kan uitkeren. Hoe meer geld een onderneming heeft, of hoe makkelijker hij geld genereert, hoe meer liquide de onderneming is. Liquideren betekent hier dus het omzetten van activa in geld, (door ze te verkopen).
