A lipoprotein is a biochemical assembly that contains both proteins and lipids. The lipids or their derivatives may be covalently or non-covalently bound to the proteins. Many enzymes, transporters, structural proteins, antigens, adhesins and toxins are lipoproteins. Examples include the high density and low density lipoproteins of the blood, the transmembrane proteins of the mitochondrion and the chloroplast, and bacterial lipoproteins [1].

Les lipoprotéines sont de grands complexes de protéines et de lipides, hydrosolubles, qui transportent massivement les lipides dans tout l’organisme. La coque externe est une monocouche de phospholipides contenant du cholestérol et une ou plusieurs molécules protéiques appelées apolipoprotéines (par exemple apo-A, Apo-B, etc.) ; la partie centrale contient des triglycérides, des esters de cholestérol et de petites quantités d’autres substances hydrophobes, comme des vitamines liposolubles.

Lipoproteine sind nicht-kovalente Aggregate aus Lipid und Protein und bilden micellenähnliche Partikel mit einem unpolaren Kern aus Cholesterinestern und Triglyceriden und einer zur wässrigen Phase gerichteten Hülle mit polaren, hydrophilen Anteilen bestehend aus Protein, Phospholipiden und den Hydroxylgruppen von unverestertem Cholesterin. Sie dienen in allen Tierklassen dem Transport der wasserunlöslichen Lipide (Fette) wie Cholesterin im Blut. Nach ihren funktionellen und physikalischen Eigenschaften, z.B. ihres Verhaltens in der Elektrophorese oder die durch Ultrazentrifugation bestimmbare Dichte, werden die Lipoproteine in fünf Klassen eingeteilt: VLDL, IDL, LDL, HDL und VHDL, so wie die Chylomikronen. In folgender Tabelle sind die Säugerlipoproteine mit einigen Unterformen aufgeführt.
