Lippe ist heute ein Landesteil von Nordrhein-Westfalen und war bis 1947 ein selbständiges deutsches Land (bis 1918 Fürstentum, ab 1918 Freistaat). Lippe war ab 1871 Teil des Deutschen Kaiserreichs, nach 1919 Teil der Weimarer Republik. Das Gebiet des ehemaligen Landes Lippe entspricht weitgehend dem heutigen Kreis Lippe. Landeshauptstadt war die heutige Kreisstadt Detmold.
