Light is electromagnetic radiation of a wavelength that is visible to the eye (visible light). In a scientific context, the word "light" is sometimes used to refer to the entire electromagnetic spectrum. Light is composed of an elementary particle called a photon.Three primary properties of light are:Intensity, or brightness;Frequency or wavelength and;Polarization or direction of the wave oscillation.Light can exhibit properties of both waves and particles. Das Licht ist im Allgemeinen der für den Menschen sichtbare Bereich der elektromagnetischen Strahlung. Dieser erstreckt sich von etwa 380 bis 780 Nanometer (nm) Wellenlänge, was einer Frequenz von etwa 789 bis herab zu 385 THz entspricht. Eine genaue Grenze lässt sich jedoch nicht angeben, da die Empfindlichkeit des menschlichen Auges an den Grenzen des Lichtspektrums nicht abrupt, sondern allmählich abnimmt. In der Physik steht der Begriff „Licht“ auch für das gesamte elektromagnetische Wellenspektrum.

Światło - pojęcie to ma inne znaczenie potoczne i w nauce.Potocznie nazywa się widzialną część promieniowania elektromagnetycznego, czyli promieniowanie widzialne odbierane przez siatkówkę oka ludzkiego np. światłocień. Precyzyjne ustalenie zakresu długości fal elektromagnetycznych nie jest tutaj możliwe, gdyż wzrok każdego człowieka charakteryzuje się nieco inną wrażliwością, stąd za wartości graniczne przyjmuje się maksymalnie 380-780 nm, choć często podaje się mniejsze zakresy (szczególnie od strony fal najdłuższych) aż do zakresu 400-700 nm.W nauce pojęcie światła jest jednak szersze (używa się pojęcia promieniowanie optyczne), gdyż nie tylko fale widzialne, ale i sąsiednie zakresy, czyli ultrafiolet i podczerwień można obserwować i mierzyć korzystając z podobnego zestawu przyrządów, a wyniki tych badań można opracowywać korzystając z tych samych praw fizyki.

Il termine luce (dal latino, lux, lucis) si riferisce alla porzione dello spettro elettromagnetico visibile dall'occhio umano, ed è approssimativamente compresa tra 400 e 700 nanometri di lunghezza d'onda, ovvero tra 750 e 428 THz di frequenza. Questo intervallo coincide con la regione di massima emissione da parte del sole. I limiti dello spettro visibile all'occhio umano non sono uguali per tutte le persone, ma variano soggettivamente e possono raggiungere i 380 nanometri, avvicinandosi agli ultravioletti, e i 730 nanometri avvicinandosi agli infrarossi.
