A lexeme is an abstract unit of morphological analysis in linguistics, that roughly corresponds to a set of forms taken by a single word. For example, in the English language, run, runs, ran and running are forms of the same lexeme, conventionally written as RUN. A related concept is the lemma (or citation form), which is a particular form of a lexeme that is chosen by convention to represent a canonical form of a lexeme. Lemmas are used in dictionaries as the headwords, and other forms of a lexeme are often listed later in the entry if they are not common conjugations of that word.

Lexem (von griech. „Wort“) ist ein Fachausdruck der Semantik, der eine Gruppe syntaktischer Wörter bezeichnet, die sich wesentliche Merkmale wie Grundbedeutung und Wortart teilen. So gehören z. B. die verschiedenen Flexionsformen eines Substantivs oder Verbs zum selben Lexem (singen, singt, singst = ein Lexem; singen, Sänger = zwei Lexeme).

Le lexème est le morphème lexical d'un lemme, c'est-à-dire une unité de sens et de son qui n'est pas fonctionnelle ou dérivationnelle. Le lexème renvoie à une notion abstraite ou concrète indépendante de la situation de communication.

Leksem to wyraz rozumiany jako abstrakcyjna jednostka systemu słownikowego języka. Składa się na nią znaczenie leksykalne oraz zespół wszystkich funkcji gramatycznych, jakie dany leksem może spełniać, a także zespół form językowych reprezentujących w tekście leksem w jego poszczególnych funkcjach. Przykładowo wyrazy czytać, czytam, czytali, przeczytasz są formami tego samego leksemu. Pokrewnym pojęciem jest lemma oznaczająca kanoniczną, podstawową formę leksemu, którą najczęściej podaje się w słownikach. Leksem może być reprezentowany przez jeden wyraz tekstowy.

Een lexeem is een combinatie van fonemen, morfemen of lettertekens tot een woord op lexicaal niveau. Dit gesproken of geschreven woord kan meerdere betekenissen hebben, in meerdere talen. Zo hebben bank of bord in het Nederlands verschillende betekenissen en heeft het woord of een andere betekenis in het Nederlands dan in het Engels.
