In geography, latitude is a geographic coordinate that specifies the north-south position of a point on the Earth's surface. Lines of constant latitude, or parallels, run east–west as circles parallel to the equator. Latitude is an angle (defined below) which ranges from 0° at the Equator to 90° (North or South) at the poles.

Die geographische Breite f oder B (lateinisch latitudo, englisch latitude, international abgekürzt mit Lat. oder LAT) ist die im Winkelmaß (also in Grad) angegebene nördliche oder südliche Entfernung eines Punktes der Erdoberfläche vom Äquator. Die Breite kann Werte von 0° (am Äquator) bis ±90° (an den Polen) annehmen. Statt des Vorzeichens (traditionell +Nord, -Süd) ist auch N bzw. S zulässig.

Det senare anges ibland med en negativ vinkel, och det förekommer också att radianer används som vinkelenhet.

Szerokość geograficzna (ang. latitude, symbol φ) - jedna z współrzędnych geograficznych, kąt pomiędzy lokalną osią pionu a płaszczyzną równika. Wartości szerokości geograficznej rozciągają się między 0° na równiku i 90° na biegunach. Szerokość geograficzna może być północna (N; zobacz: półkula północna) lub południowa (S; zobacz: półkula południowa).
