Lamb, mutton, and hogget (UK, New Zealand and Australia) are the meat of domestic sheep. The meat of a sheep in its first year is lamb; that of a juvenile sheep older than 1 year is hogget; and the meat of an adult sheep is mutton.

Lammfleisch, Hammelfleisch und Schaffleisch (regional Schöpsernes) bezeichnet das Fleisch von Schafen. Die unterschiedlichen Bezeichnungen kennzeichnen das Alter: Lammfleisch stammt von Tieren, die jünger sind als ein Jahr, Hammelfleisch von solchen, die jünger sind als zwei Jahre, Schaffleisch von mindestens zwei Jahre alten Tieren.

L'agneau, le petit du mouton, peut être abattu avant qu'il ne soit adulte pour sa viande, qui est très tendre. Un agneau de lait est un agneau très jeune, abattu avant qu'il ne soit sevré (en général vers 90 jours).

Baranina (mięso baranie) – mięso otrzymane z owcy lub barana. Jest jednym z kilku mięs używanych w kuchni europejskiej (głównie na południu Europy). Dawniej baranina była bardzo popularna, dziś jednak jej spożycie jest znacznie mniejsze. Baranina jest również popularna w krajach muzułmańskich, gdzie religia zabrania spożycia wieprzowiny. Stanowi podstawę diety w Mongolii. Jest także podstawowym rodzajem pożywienia (obok ryb) na Islandii.

El cordero es el ejemplar juvenil, de menos de un año, de cualquier especie del género Ovis, en especial de Ovis aries, la oveja doméstica; la carne de cordero, procedente de animales de entre un mes y un año de edad y con un peso de entre 5,5 y 25 kg, es la forma principal en que se consumen estas especies. La carne de ovejas mayores se comercializa con otro nombre.
