Koryu
is a Japanese word that is used in association with the ancient Japanese martial arts. This word literally translates as " " (ko—old, ryu—school) or "traditional school". Koryu is a general term for Japanese schools of martial arts that predate the Meiji Restoration (the period from 1866 to 1869 which sparked major socio-political changes and led to the modernization of Japan). While there is no "official" cutoff date, the dates most commonly used are either 1868, the first year of the Meiji period, or 1876, when the Haitorei edict banning the wearing of swords was pronounced.

Koryu Tadaharu
Kōryū Tadaharu (光龍 忠晴, born 4 February 1984) is a Mongolian former sumo wrestler from Ulan Bator. His highest rank was maegashira 11. He was forced to retire from sumo in 2011 after being found guilty of match-fixing.

Koryu bujutsu
Koryu (jap. 古流 koryū - dosłownie stara szkoła lub stara tradycja). Pojęcie odnoszące się do szkół japońskich sztuk walki sprzed restauracji Meiji, która spowodowała dołączenie przez Japonię do grona nowoczesnych państw. Sztuki walki rozwinięte po tym wydarzeniu (gendai budō, takie jak judo, kendo, iaido i aikido) są cenione jako sport lub sztuka samodoskonalenia, podczas gdy koryu zawierają elementy militarnej kultury feudalnej Japonii. Style koryu obejmują zarówno walkę wieloma rodzajami broni, jak i techniki bez broni.

Koryu
Koryū (古流) è una parola giapponese che si traduce in "antica scuola" o "antica tradizione" soprattutto nel contesto delle arti tradizionali giapponesi (arti marziali, artigianato) che risalgono a prima della modernizzazione (Meiji).
In particolare l'espressione Koryū Bujutsu si usa per definire tutte quelle scuole di arti marziali la cui fondazione è precedente alla restaurazione Meiji (dall'imperatore omonimo 1862-1912) che vide la nascita del moderno Budo (Judo, Aikido, Kendo, Iaido, ecc.)
Ogni Koryū aveva le sue peculiarità (ryūgi) fortemente legate ai clan samurai del feudalesimo giapponese.
