Knot
A knot is a method for fastening or securing linear material such as
rope by tying or interweaving. It may consist of a length of one or more segments of rope, string,
webbing,
twine,
strap or even chain interwoven so as to create in the line the ability to bind to itself or to some other object - the "load". Knots have been the subject of interest both for their ancient origins, common use, and the mathematical implications of
knot theory.

Knoop (touw)
Een knoop is een manier om een
lijn (
touw) min of meer blijvend ergens aan vast te maken, of om twee touwen aan elkaar vast te maken. Een steek is een manier van vastmaken, waarbij het losmaken al wordt voorzien en vergemakkelijkt wordt. Een synoniem voor de handeling van het 'knopen' is 'sjorren'.
