A keyboardist is a musician who plays keyboard instruments. Until the early 1960s musicians who played keyboards were generally classified as either pianists or organists. Since the mid 1960s, a plethora of new musical instruments with keyboards have come into common usage, requiring a more general term for a person who plays them. En musique, un claviériste (ou, par métonymie, un clavier) est un musicien qui joue d'un instrument à clavier. Le terme « claviériste » est plus général que les termes « pianiste », « claveciniste » ou « organiste », et est souvent utilisé pour décrire quelqu'un qui joue des claviers électriques ou électroniques tels que le piano électrique, l'orgue Hammond ou divers types de synthétiseurs, mais aussi , de façon périphérique, du piano, clavecin, célesta, clavicorde ou orgue dont il ne maitrisera pas les subtilités d'interprétation. Le claviériste désigne aussi l'utilisateur de vocoder ou de workstation, notamment dans les groupes de musique électronique (par exemple : Nine Inch Nails, Kraftwerk, Avoid Catoblépone,... ).

キーボーディスト (keyboardist) とは、いわゆる鍵盤楽器の演奏者のことである。別名キーボード奏者、キーボードプレイヤー。一般的には軽音楽、大衆音楽における鍵盤楽器奏者を指す名称として使用され、実際に使用される楽器も電子鍵盤楽器かピアノである場合が大半である。英単語としてはあらゆる鍵盤楽器のプレイヤーと解釈できるが、現実にはクラシックを中心にピアノはピアニスト、オルガンならオルガニスト、さらにシンセサイザーではシンセシストと鍵盤楽器奏者であっても、特定の楽器を主に演奏する演奏者は、それぞれ独立して呼称される場合が多く、多種多様な鍵盤楽器を使用する場合において「その他の鍵盤奏者」としてキーボーディストと呼称すると理解するの一般的である。なお、近年のパーソナルコンピュータの普及もあり、一般の人には従来の「キーボード ＝ 鍵盤楽器」という概念は通用しなくなってきた。
