JURIST is an online legal news service hosted by the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, edited by founder Professor Bernard Hibbitts, Executive Director Jeannie Shawl, and a staff of more than 40 law students working in Pittsburgh and other US locations. It features continuously-updated US and international legal news researched in real time, expert commentary, key primary documents and video. The daily current events portion of the site is called "Paper Chase".

This article is about the use of the term "jurist". For the University of Pittsburgh School of Law's legal news and research website, see JURIST. A jurist is a professional who studies, develops, applies or otherwise deals with the law. The term is widely used in American English, but in the United Kingdom and many Commonwealth countries it has only historical and specialist usage. In most of Continental Europe any person who possesses a degree in law is called a jurist.

En Europe, il exercera au minimum en étant titulaire d'une licence mais plus souvent d'une maîtrise voire d'un doctorat (schéma LMD).

Prawnik – na gruncie prawa polskiego to osoba, która ukończyła wyższe studia prawnicze w Polsce i uzyskała tytuł magistra lub ukończyła stosowne zagraniczne studia uznawane w Polsce.Niektóre systemy prawne, wywodzące się z common law, jako prawników najniższego stopnia zawodowego uznają także osoby o wykształceniu wyższym humanistycznym, zajmujące się zawodowo prawem. Obecnie jednak w większości krajów świata do wykonywania zawodów mających związek z prawem jest wymagane wyższe, uniwersyteckie wykształcenie prawnicze, a dla wykonywania kluczowych zawodów prawniczych, okresy dodatkowego stażu (aplikacja, asesura).
