An island or isle is any piece of sub-continental land that is surrounded by water. Very small islands such as emergent land features on atolls can be called islets, cays or keys. An island in a river or an island in a lake may be called an eyot  (also ait ), or holm. A grouping of geographically or geologically related islands is called an archipelago.

Iceland (, ) is a Nordic European island country in the North Atlantic Ocean, on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. The country has a population of about 320,000 and a total area of . The capital and largest city is Reykjavík, with the surrounding areas in the southwestern region of the country being home to two-thirds of the country's population. Iceland is volcanically and geologically active. The interior mainly consists of a plateau characterised by sand fields, mountains and glaciers, while many glacial rivers flow to the sea through the lowlands. Iceland is warmed by the Gulf Stream and has a temperate climate despite a high latitude just outside the Arctic Circle.

Island (vgl. mhd. îs und isl. ís – Eis) ist mit rund 103.000 km² (Landfläche: 100.250 km², Wasserfläche: 2750 km², mit Fischereizone 758.000 km²) – nach dem Vereinigten Königreich – der flächenmäßig zweitgrößte Inselstaat Europas. Die im Nordatlantik liegende Hauptinsel ist die größte Vulkaninsel der Welt und befindet sich knapp südlich des nördlichen Polarkreises. Seit seinem Beitrittsgesuch am 17. Juli 2009 ist Island potenzieller Kandidat für eine EU-Mitgliedschaft. Zudem ist der Inselstaat Gründungsmitglied der NATO.

Eine Insel ist eine in einem Meer oder Binnengewässer liegende, auch bei Flut über den Wasserspiegel hinausragende Landmasse, die vollständig von Wasser umgeben ist, aber nicht als Kontinent gilt.

Insel ist eine Gemeinde im Landkreis Stendal in Sachsen-Anhalt (Deutschland). Sie wird nach der Auflösung der Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Stendal-Uchtetal am 1. Januar 2010 und bis zur Eingemeindung nach Stendal vorerst von der Kreisstadt Stendal mitverwaltet.

Island est le mot anglais équivalent au français île. A ne pas confondre avec le nom propre Islande, qui désigne l'île située dans l'Océan Atlantique, dans l'Europe du Nord.

L’Islande, officiellement République d’Islande (en islandais Lýðveldið Ísland ou simplement Ísland, littéralement « terre de glace »), est un État insulaire de l’océan Atlantique Nord, situé entre le Groenland, l’Écosse et la Norvège, au nord-ouest des îles Féroé. Étant située sur la dorsale médio-Atlantique, elle compte de nombreux volcans.

Dans le domaine de la géographie, une île est une étendue de terre entourée d'eau, que cette eau soit celle d'un cours d'eau, d'un lac ou d'une mer.

Island (isländska: Ísland) är en republik omfattande ön med samma namn samt därtill hörande mindre öar. Island ligger i norra Atlanten mellan Grönland och de Brittiska öarna, precis söder om norra polcirkeln. Trots detta läge har landet ett mildare klimat än norra Sverige eftersom milda vattenströmmar förs förbi ön av nordatlantiska driften.

En ö är ett större landområde helt omgivet av vatten (jämför kontinent och holme).

Islandia, Republika Islandii (Ísland, Lýðveldið Ísland) – państwo położone w Europie Północnej, na wyspie o tej samej nazwie i kilku mniejszych wyspach m.in. archipelag Vestmannaeyjar, w północnej części Oceanu Atlantyckiego. Islandia jest jednym z krajów nordyckich.

Wyspa – każdy z trwałych fragmentów lądowej powierzchni Ziemi, który jest otoczony ze wszystkich stron wodą. Wyspy istnieją więc na rzekach, jeziorach, stawach, morzach i oceanach. W przypadku tych dwóch ostatnich za wyspy uznaje się obiekty o rozmiarach mniejszych od rozmiarów kontynentu (wartość graniczna znajduje się gdzieś między wielkością największej wyspy: Grenlandii a wielkością najmniejszego kontynentu: Australii). Za wyspy nie uznaje się ruchomych ławic piaszczystych, ani obszarów lądu zalewanych podczas przypływów.
