This article is about political Islamism Islamism (Arabic: al-'islāmiyya) is a term usually used to denote a set of political ideologies holding that Islam is not only a religion but also a political system and its teachings should be preeminent in all facets of society. It holds that Muslims must return to the original teachings and the early models of Islam, particularly by making Islamic law (sharia) the basis for all statutory law of society and by uniting politically, eventually in one state; and that western military, economic, political, social, or cultural influence in the Muslim world is un-Islamic and should be replaced by purely Islamic influences. A broader definition gives Islamism's role as "support for identity, authenticity, broader regionalism, revivalism, revitalization of the community;" while a narrower definition defines it as "an Islamic militant, anti-democratic movement, bearing a holistic vision of Islam whose final aim is the restoration of the caliphate." Attributes of sharia law supported by many, but not all, Islamists include "enforcement of Islamic punishments, including prohibitions on taking interest, playing music, showing television, ... and enforcing traditional dress and attendance at prayers."

Islamischer Fundamentalismus, gemeinhin auch Islamismus genannt, bezeichnet die Politisierung des Islam bzw. eine Leseart des Islam vornehmlich als politischer und nicht nur religiöser Ideologie. Die Ziele islamistischer Gruppierungen sind allgemein die Errichtung eines islamischen Staates oder die Umwandlung eines existierenden Staates kompatibel zur Anwendung der Sharia - des religiösen Gesetzes - sowie die Verpflichtung der sowohl muslimischen als auch der nicht-muslimischen Bevölkerung auf die Werte und Normen des Propheten Mohammed und der ersten vier Kalifen.

Islamizm to ideologia polityczna wywiedziona z fundamentalizmu islamskiego. W islamizmie islam jest traktowany nie tylko jako religia, ale i jako całościowy system polityczny, który regulować powinien prawne, gospodarcze i społeczne aspekty funkcjonowania państwa w oparciu o literalną interpretację Koranu i hadisów. Celem islamizmu jest wprowadzenie państwa wyznaniowego, rządzonego zgodnie z zasadami prawa religijnego –szariatu.

Islamisme of politieke islam is een verzameling van politieke ideologieën gebaseerd op een conservatieve, letterlijke (of 'literalistische') interpretatie van de Koran en de Hadith. De ideologie komt voort uit het principe van tawhid, eenheid, en is daarmee tegen de scheiding van geloof en staat. Islamisten willen de staatshuishouding in de islamitische landen, door middel van sharia wetgeving, strikter in overeenstemming met de Koran brengen. Voor sommigen van hen is het ideaal om opnieuw een kalifaat in te voeren, met een Kalief als leider die zowel geestelijke als seculiere macht heeft. Zij zien in dit politieke ideaal de oplossing voor alle wereldlijke, economische en sociale problemen. Sommigen vinden dat ook andere landen tot de islam bekeerd moeten worden. Zij staan een rigoureuze, hernieuwde toepassing van de Koran en de religieuze wetten voor. Deze niet-geestelijken passen de islamitische wetten echter toe zonder de islamitische leermeesters te consulteren. Zij erkennen de tafsir die in de loop der eeuwen door islamitische juristen werden gemaakt, niet.
