iram

iRam is a new application of an old technology from Gigabyte Technology. It basically involves a PCI card with slots for up to 4GB of DDR DRAM which is used like a normal disk drive. Their recommended application of this drive is to install an operating system on it, in order to increase booting speed. They claim an increase in up to 60-times the speed and can boot Windows XP in 5 seconds.

En informatique, on appelle mémoire iRAM un module mémoire qui est enfiché dans un des logements PCI de la carte mère de l'ordinateur et qui se comporte comme un disque dur. Il utilise l'interface SATA caractérisé par un taux de transfert de 150Mo/s.

Das Institut für Radioastronomie im Millimeterbereich (IRAM) ist ein internationales Radioobservatorium.IRAM wurde 1979 gegründet und wird in deutsch-französisch-spanischer Zusammenarbeit betrieben. Trägerorganisationen sind die Max-Planck-Gesellschaft, das französische Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) und das spanische Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN). IRAM betreibt zwei Observatorien für Radioastronomie. Beide befinden sich in großer Höhe, in der die Durchlässigkeit der Erdatmosphäre für Radiowellen von 1-3mm Wellenlänge günstiger ist.

iRAM lub też i-RAM - karta rozszerzeń wprowadzona przez tajwańską firmę Gigabyte w roku 2005. Karta ta pełni funkcje dysku twardego. Za przechowywanie danych odpowiada pamięć RAM. Dane zapisane w pamięci mogą być przetrzymywane do 16 godzin po wyłączeniu komputera dzięki własnemu zasilaniu z akumulatora. Po upływie tego czasu dane są bezpowrotnie tracone zgodnie z zasadą działania pamięci RAM. Według obliczeń firmy Gigabyte, system Windows XP uruchamia się 13 razy szybciej niżeli to ma miejsce przy konwencjonalnym rozwiązaniu. Karta iRam umożliwia bardzo szybki dostęp do pamięci. Dane mogą być pobierane z nich do 60% szybciej niż z normalnego dysku twardego.

Irem, Iram, często określany jako Irem o tysiącu filarów (ar. إرَم ذات العماد ) - zaginione miasto na pustyni Rub al-Chali, w dzisiejszym Omanie. Miasto istniało od III tysiąclecia p.n.e do początków naszej ery, słynęło z pałaców i świątyń o pozłacanych kolumnach. Głównym partnerem handlowym Iremu była Ebla w Syrii. Mieszkańcami Iremu byli ludzie z plemienia 'Ad, przez Ptolemeusza zwani Ubarytami.

iRAM é o nome de um produto da Gigabyte Technology, ou Gigabyte. É um dispositivo de armazenamento, que pode ser usado como um HD, de  memória sólida, ou SSD. Ele tem custo menor do que o típico para esse tipo de dispositivos por usar memória DDR convencional. O iRAM pode ser descrito como uma placa PCI que contém 4 slots para  memória DDR, um controlador SATA e bateria recarregável.Ele pode ser populada com chips de memória de até 1 Gb, o que permite atingir até 4 gigabytes. O controlador SATA é chamado "inteligente" pela companhia, de onde supõe-se vir o i do nome. Por último, a bateria recarregável garantiria uma autonomia de 15 horas para os dados contidos nas memórias RAM, que são voláteis. A bateria pode ser automaticamente recarregada quando o PC é ligado novamente à tomada. Um ponto também interessante é que, se o PC estiver desligado, mas conectado à tomada, a memória continuará a ser alimentada e, portanto, seu conteúdo não se perderá.
