The Infrared Astronomical Satellite (IRAS) was the first-ever space-based observatory to perform a survey of the entire sky at infrared wavelengths.

Der Infrared Astronomical Satellite (IRAS) (Niederländisch: Infra-Rood Astronomische Satelliet) war das erste Weltraumteleskop für das mittlere und ferne Infrarot. Mit seiner Hilfe wurde der IRAS Catalog of Point Sources, Version 2.0 erstellt.

IRAS, pour Infrared Astronomical Satellite (litt. «Satellite astronomique infrarouge»), ou le télescope spatial infrarouge IRAS fut un projet conjoint entre la National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), l'agence spatiale néerlandaise (NIVR) et l'agence de la recherche britannique (SERC). Cette mission avait pour objectif de réaliser un survey complet (une cartographie complète) du ciel dans les bandes infrarouges à 12, 25, 60 et 100 µm.

Infrared Astronomical Satellite (IRAS), był pierwszym sztucznym satelitą zbudowanym specjalnie do badań promieniowania podczerwonego. Został wystrzelony 25 stycznia 1983 roku. Jego zadaniem było badanie i przegląd prawie całego nieba w czterech zakresach średniej i dalekiej podczerwieni. Pracował na falach 12, 25, 60 i 100 μm. IRAS dokonał przeglądu 96% powierzchni nieba za pomocą teleskopu o średnicy 60 cm, chłodzonego ciekłym helem w celu obniżenia poziomu szumów cieplnych.
