Inverse element
In abstract algebra, the idea of an inverse element generalises the concept of a negation, in relation to addition, and a reciprocal, in relation to multiplication. The intuition is of an element that can 'undo' the effect of combination with another given element. While the precise definition of an inverse element varies depending on the algebraic structure involved, these definitions coincide in a group.

Inverses Element
In der Mathematik treten inverse Elemente bei der Untersuchung von algebraischen Strukturen auf. Solch eine Struktur besteht einfach gesagt aus einer Menge und einer in ihr definierten zweistelligen Verknüpfung (Rechenoperation). In diesem Kontext heißt das, wenn man ein beliebiges Element der Menge und sein Inverses mit der Rechenoperation verknüpft, kommt immer das sogenannte neutrale Element heraus.

Élément symétrique
En mathématiques, la notion d'élément symétrique généralise les concepts d'opposé en rapport avec l'addition, d'inverse en rapport avec la multiplication, d'application réciproque pour la composition d'applications. Intuitivement, un symétrique est un élément qui va défaire par composition, l'effet de la composition par un autre élément d'un élément donné.

Element odwrotny (albo przeciwny) jest uogólnieniem pojęcia liczby przeciwnej i odwrotności liczby.

Niech oznacza działanie dwuargumentowe w zbiorze . Element nazywa się elementem odwrotnym do jeżeli spełnione są dwa warunki:
