Inhalation (also known as inspiration) is the flow of the respiratory current into an organism. In humans it is the movement of air from the external environment, through the airways, and into the alveoli.

Als Inhalation oder Inhalieren (von lateinisch inhalare = anhauchen) wird das Einatmen gasförmiger Wirkstoffe oder Aerosole (als dem Gemisch von festen und/oder flüssigen Schwebeteilchen und Luft) bezeichnet. Die häufigsten Einsatzgebiete in der Medizin finden sich in der Behandlung von Atemwegserkrankungen sowie im Bereich der Anästhesie mit der Gabe von Inhalationsanästhetika im Rahmen der Inhalationsanästhesie. Das Gegenteil der Inhalation ist die Exhalation.

En médecine, une inhalation désigne l'absorption par les voies respiratoires. Le terme peut désigner :

• Une méthode d'absorption à des fins thérapeutiques, de certaines substances sous forme de gaz, de micro-gouttelettes ou de poudre en suspension (anesthésiques, désinfectants,  bronchodilatateur ... ). L'inhalation est aussi très utilisée dans la médecine traditionnelle avec des infusions à base de plantes.
• Une inhalation pulmonaire du contenu gastrique, pouvant provoquer une pneumopathie d'inhalation.

Inhalacja - zabieg leczniczy polegający na wdychaniu par wód mineralnych, roztworów leków lub ich aerozoli. Wykonywany za pomocą specjalnego aparatu (inhalatora) lub przez wdychanie par wrzącego płynu. Do inhalacji używa się leków działających rozkurczowo na drzewo oskrzelowe, ułatwiających wykrztuszanie wydzieliny, działających przeciwzapalnie i antybiotyków. Inhalacje najczęściej stosowane są w astmie oskrzelowej, ostrych i przewlekłych stanach zapalnych dróg oddechowych.
