In the publishing industry, an imprint can mean several different things:

• As a piece of bibliographic information about a book, it refers to the name and address of the book's publisher and its date of publication as given at the foot or on the verso of its title page.
• It can mean a trade name under which a work is published. One single publishing company may have multiple imprints; the different imprints are used by the publisher to market works to different demographic consumer segments. In some cases, the diversity results from the takeover of smaller publishers (or parts of their business) by a larger company. This usage of the word has evolved from the first meaning given above.
• It can also refer to a finer distinction of a book's version than "edition". This is used to distinguish, for example different printings, or  printing runs of the same edition, or to distinguish the same edition produced by a different publisher or printer. With the creation of the "ISBN" identification system, which is assigned to a text prior to its printing, a different imprint has effectively come to mean a text with a different ISBN—if one had been assigned to it.
• The word imprint or masthead is sometimes used on international websites, normally translated from German. This usually contains an "Impressum" that contains legal information, such as website details with information on the responsible person or entity.

Ein Imprint ist im Verlagswesen eine Wortmarke, die im Buchhandel wie ein Verlag gehandhabt wird. Hinter ihr steht jedoch ein anders benanntes Verlagsunternehmen. Imprints dienen primär dem Marketing gegenüber dem Buchhändler und dem Endkunden. Den tatsächlichen Verlag nennt immer das Impressum.

Ett Imprint (förlagsetikett) är i bokbranschen ett varumärke, som i bokhandeln hanteras som ett bokförlag. Det är dock inte namnet på ett företag, utan ingår tillsammans med andra varumärken i en större förlagskoncern. Imprints fyller ett syfte inom marknadsföringen mot bokhandeln och slutkunderna. Det "riktiga" förlaget brukar anges i bokens impressum (på titelsidan eller dess baksida).

Imprint (zapożyczenie z języka angielskiego) to inaczej marka wydawnicza, pod którą wydawca publikuje określony rodzaj wydawnictw. Podmiot będący wydawcą jako przedsiębiorca ma tylko jedną firmę, czyli nazwę, pod którą prowadzi działalność gospodarczą, jednak w celu rozróżnienia charakteru rozmaitych realizowanych przez siebie publikacji może postanowić wykreować więcej marek wydawniczych niż jedna. Określenie „imprint” w Polsce najszerzej przyjęło się w środowisku twórców i miłośników komiksu, jednak coraz częściej stosowane bywa w odniesieniu do innych publikacji książkowych a także wydawnictw dźwiękowych czy multimedialnych.

インプリント(英：imprint)とは、欧米の出版社が出版物を刊行する際に用いるブランド名のことである。ひとつの出版社が複数のインプリントを持っていて、出版物の内容によってインプリントを使い分けることもある。合併・買収された出版社の名前がインプリントとして残る場合もある。
