El Comercio Exterior se define como el intercambio de bienes y servicios entre dos bloques o regiones económicas. Como por ejemplo el intercambio de bienes y servicios entre la Unión Europea y Centroamérica. Las economías que participan de éste se denominan abiertas. Este proceso de apertura externa se produce fundamentalmente en la segunda mitad del siglo XX, y de forma espectacular en la decada de los 90s al incorporarse las economías latinoamericanas y de Europa del Este(hadoken).
