The iMac is a desktop Macintosh computer designed and built by Apple, Inc. It has been a large part of Apple's consumer desktop offerings since its introduction in 1998 and has evolved through three distinct forms. In its original form, the G3, the iMac was egg-shaped with a CRT monitor and was mainly enclosed by colored, translucent plastic. The second major revision, the G4, moved to a design of a hemispherical base containing all the main components and an LCD monitor on a freely-moving arm attached to the top of the base. The iMac G5 and the Intel iMac placed all the components immediately behind the monitor, creating a slim design which tilts only up and down on a simple metal base. The current iMac shares the same form as the previous models but is now thinner and uses aluminum and glass for its case.

Der Apple iMac ist ein von Apple produzierter Computer. Grundsätzliche Idee des iMacs war ein sogenanntes „All-in-one“-Gehäuse mit möglichst einfacher Bedienbarkeit für eine technisch weniger versierte Zielgruppe. Mit diesem Gerät knüpfte Apple an frühere, in den 80er Jahren produzierte Rechner an, in denen Rechner und Minibildschirm in einem Gerät integriert waren.

iMac – seria komputerów firmy Apple. iMac zdobył swoją popularność przede wszystkim olbrzymią ergonomią (zajmuje mało miejsca na biurku, wszystko w jednym miejscu, minimalna ilość kabli, fabrycznie skonfigurowany komputer gotowy do działania łącznie z wejściem do Internetu) oraz, co nie jest bez znaczenia, estetyką wyglądu – od tego czasu komputery zaczęto stawiać na biurku w eksponowanym miejscu traktując je jak wystrój wnętrza.

L'iMac è un modello di computer Macintosh prodotto dalla californiana Apple Computer a partire dal 1998. All'iMac sarà attribuito il rilancio commerciale della stessa Apple che in quell'epoca versava in gravi difficoltà economiche. Particolarità dell'iMac è la forma monoblocco, proprio come il primo Mac (abbreviazione di Macintosh), completo di Modem Interno, Scheda di Rete, Porte USB, Lettore CD-ROM, schermo 15 pollici a colori, case colorato semitrasparente. Progettato come strumento personale ideale per l'utilizzo in modo semplificato di Internet dotato di processori PowerPC G3 pubblicizzati come capaci di "bruciare" gli equivalenti della gamma Pentium di Intel. L'iMac fu disegnato, progettato, realizzato e commercializzato sotto le direttive di Steve Jobs cofondatore dell'attuale Apple Computer.
