Hypnosis
Hypnosis is "a trance state characterized by extreme suggestibility, relaxation and heightened imagination." It is a mental state (according to "state theory") or imaginative role-enactment (according to "non-state theory"). It is usually induced by a procedure known as a hypnotic induction, which is commonly composed of a long series of preliminary instructions and suggestions. Hypnotic suggestions may be delivered by a hypnotist in the presence of the subject, or may be self-administered ("self-suggestion" or "autosuggestion"). The use of hypnotism for therapeutic purposes is referred to as "hypnotherapy", while its use as a form of entertainment for an audience is known as "stage hypnosis".

Hypnose
Als Hypnose (altgr. hypnos ,Schlaf’) werden bezeichnet:
- das Verfahren zum Erreichen einer hypnotischen Trance (Trance ist gekennzeichnet durch vorübergehend geänderte Aufmerksamkeit und meist tiefe Entspannung). Man spricht auch von hypnotischer Induktion und Hypnose im engeren Sinne.
- der Zustand der hypnotischen Trance. Trance wird nur im Sinne des Zustands gebraucht.

Hipnoza
Hipnoza - stan psychiczny (dokł. odmienny stan świadomości), pomiędzy snem a jawą, charakteryzujący się wzmożoną podatnością na sugestię. Termin hipnoza pochodzi od greckiego słowa hipnos, czyli sen.
Hipnoza, chociaż niekiedy bardzo przypomina sen - snem nie jest. Dowodzą tego badania elektroencefalograficzne mózgu. Inną częstotliwość mają bowiem fale mózgowe człowieka śpiącego, inną rozbudzonego, a jeszcze inną zahipnotyzowanego (stan głębokiego odprężenia, relaksu)
Stan hipnotyczny jest naturalnym stanem umysłu występującym u ludzi często podczas dnia. Jest pogłębionym stanem koncentracji - a poprzez to ograniczeniem spostrzegania tego, co jest poza polem koncentracji.
