A hotel is an establishment that provides lodging paid on a short-term basis. The provision of basic accommodation, in times past, consisting only of a room with a bed, a cupboard, a small table and a washstand has largely been replaced by rooms with modern facilities, including en-suite bathrooms and air conditioning or climate control. Additional common features found in hotel rooms are a telephone, an alarm clock, a television, a safe, a mini-bar with snack foods and drinks, and facilities for making tea and coffee. Luxury features include bathrobes and slippers, a pillow menu, twin-sink vanities, and jacuzzi bathtubs. Larger hotels may provide additional guest facilities such as a swimming pool, fitness center, business center, childcare, conference facilities and social function services

In French contexts an hôtel particulier is a townhouse of a grand sort. The word Hôtel was reflected in the English mediaeval word "Inn" for the townhouse of a nobleman, now surviving only as used in Inns of Court, particulier meaning "personal" or "private". Whereas an ordinary maison (house) was built as part of a row, sharing party walls with the houses on either side and directly fronting on a street, an hôtel particulier was often free-standing, and by the 18th century it would always be located entre cour et jardin, between the entrance court, the cour d'honneur, and the garden behind. There are hôtels particuliers in many large cities, such as Paris, Bordeaux,  Albi, Aix en Provence, Avignon, Caen, Lyon, Montpellier, Nancy, Rouen, Rennes, Toulouse and Troyes.

Une auberge est un petit hôtel à la campagne, dans les petites villes ou les faubourgs, où les voyageurs peuvent loger et manger.

Un hôtel particulier est un type de logement que l'on trouve en France, consistant en une maison luxueuse et vaste bâtie au sein d'une ville, en principe sur plusieurs étages, conçue pour n'être habitée que par une seule famille (ainsi que son personnel de maison en général).

Hotel är ett musikalbum av den amerikanske musikern Moby. Det lanserades internationellt den 14 mars 2005 och i USA den 22 mars.

Ett hotell är en byggnad där rum för övernattning hyrs ut. Till skillnad från vandrarhem hyrs endast hela rum ut och inte enstaka sängar.
