horror film

Horror films are films of the horror genre that are designed to elicit fright, fear, terror, or horror from viewers. In horror film plots,  evil forces, events, or characters, sometimes of supernatural origin, intrude into the everyday world. Horror film characters include vampires, zombies, monsters, serial killers, demons, ghosts and a range of other fear-inspiring characters. Early horror films often drew inspiration from characters and stories from classic literature, such as Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Wolf Man, The Phantom of the Opera and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Later horror films, in contrast, often drew inspiration from the insecurities of life since World War Two, giving rise to the three distinct, but related, subgenres of the horror-of-personality film, the horror-of-Armageddon film, and the horror-of-the-demonic film. The last subgenre may be seen as a modernized transition from the earlier horror films, expanding on the earlier emphasis on supernatural agents that bring horror to the world.

Le film d'horreur est un genre cinématographique dont l'objectif est de créer le sentiment de peur et d'angoisse de caractère morbide chez le spectateur. Parmi les films d'horreur les plus connus, nous trouvons Frankenstein (de James Whale), Dracula (de Tod Browning), L'Exorciste (de William Friedkin), Halloween (de John Carpenter), Vendredi 13 (de Sean S. Cunningham), Les griffes de la nuit (de Wes Craven), Scream (de Wes Craven), ou la célèbre série des Zombie (de George Andrew Romero).

Der Horrorfilm ist ein Filmgenre, das beim Zuschauer Gefühle der Angst, des Schreckens und Verstörung auszulösen versucht. Oftmals, aber nicht zwangsläufig, treten dabei übernatürliche Akteure oder Phänomene auf, von denen eine zumeist lebensbedrohliche und traumatische Wirkung auf die Protagonisten ausgeht. Die deutsche Bezeichnung Gruselfilm wird tendenziell eher für ältere Horrorfilme verwendet. Eine besonders auf den Schrecken der Gewalt setzende Form ist der Splatterfilm.

Horror (łac. groza, strach), fantastyka grozy – odmiana fantastyki polegająca na budowaniu świata przedstawionego na wzór rzeczywistości i praw nią rządzących po to, aby wprowadzić w jego obręb zjawiska kwestionujące te prawa i nie dające się wytłumaczyć bez odwoływania się do zjawisk nadprzyrodzonych. Zadaniem horroru jest często wywołanie lęku i niepokoju u odbiorcy utworu. Pojawiające się w świecie utworu zjawiska fantastyczne podważają ustalone na początku i akceptowane przez bohaterów prawa świata. Różnica między horrorem a thrillerem polega na tym, że w thrillerze zagrożenie ma charakter realny (np. przestępca, epidemia).

Il cinema horror (o dell'orrore) è un genere cinematografico caratterizzato dalla presenza di scene finalizzate a suscitare nello spettatore emozioni di paura, disgusto ed orrore. Le trame solitamente vedono la presenza dell'ignoto in senso ostile (come forze, eventi, personaggi del male o di origine soprannaturale) nel mondo di tutti i giorni.
