horon

Horon (Greek: Horon, singular form) , is a dance style of Pontus found in the Black Sea region, now modern Turkey. Horon is defined by a formed hand-in-hand circle and very precise short dance steps, mostly including sudden shoulder thrusts and distinct knee bends. The dances are not led by any one person, which is a characteristic of Middle Eastern and Persian dances. In Turkey, it is almost always played for long periods of time after the Pontian style Dipat or Omal dances, and are often concluded with the Pontian style Tromakton, Tonyalidikon, or Moskof dances.

Hora (rumänska: hori, från grekiskans choro (ringdans)) är en rumänsk ålderdomlig folkdans som utförs i en sluten ring med både kvinnor och män i ett gungande, långsamt tempo. Dansen genomförs ofta på högtidliga tillfällen såsom bröllop och barndop. Hora är en mycket vanlig danstyp runt Balkanländerna men har olika namn i olika länder såsom Oro i Albanien, Montenegro och Serbien och Horo i Grekland. Dansen förekommer även i Israel, där är det dock en fråga om en rekonstruktion som tillkom efter 1948.
