HIStory - Past, Present and Future, Book I is a double-disc album (one half greatest hits, one half studio album) by American musician Michael Jackson released in June of 1995 by the Epic Records division of Sony BMG.The first disc, (HIStory Begins) contains fifteen hit singles from the past fifteen plus years of his career to this point (which was re-released in late 2001 as an only-compilation project, entitled Greatest Hits - HIStory Volume I). The tracklist included fourteen U.S. Top 10 singles (nine of which were number-one hits) plus the worldwide top 5 hit "Heal the World". The second disc, (HIStory Continues) contains fifteen previously unreleased recordings, five of which were released as singles.

HIStory: Past, Present and Future – Book I est un double album de Michael Jackson sorti le 20 juin 1995 sur le label Epic Records, division de Sony Music. Le concept de l'album s'appuye sur le jeu de mot 'his story' faisant allusion à la partie best-of de 15 titres sur le premier cd (History begins) et "History", titre figurant sur le second CD, contenant lui 15 titres nouveaux ou jamais sortis auparavant (History continues).

L’histoire est à la fois l’étude des faits, des événements du passé et, par synecdoque, l’ensemble de ces faits, de ces événements. Le nom a pour origine les Enquêtes (, Historíai en grec) d’Hérodote, mais c’est Thucydide qui lui applique le premier des méthodes critiques, notamment le croisement de sources différentes et qui s'efforce de trouver les causes rationnelles et non plus divines des faits historiques. Ibn Khaldoun suit la même voie avant que Tamerlan ne le transforme en à sa gloire. Montesquieu le fera également en se dégageant de l'influence de Bossuet qui dans son Histoire universelle mêlait chroniques historiques et écrits religieux fondamentaux.

Geschichte im allgemeinen Sinn bezeichnet alles, was geschehen ist. Im engeren Sinne bezeichnet Geschichte die Entwicklung der Menschheit. So wird auch von Menschheitsgeschichte gesprochen. HIStory: Past, Present and Future - Book 1 è il nome di un album a doppio CD di Michael Jackson pubblicato nel 1995.Il primo cd dell'album (HIStory Begins) contiene un Greatest Hits di 15 tracce, mentre il secondo cd (HIStory Continues) raccoglie 15 nuove canzoni inedite. L'album ricevette numerose nomination ai Grammy Award fra le quali l'ambitissima Album dell'anno che però non riuscì a vincere.HIStory è stato il primo album in cui Jackson mostra le sue abilità strumentali suonando tastiere sintetizzatori, chitarre, batteria e altre percussioni dell'album, mantenendo comunque la sua leadrship nell'interpretazione vocale. Inoltre è stato anche impegnato nella produzione dell'album insieme ad altri esponenti musicali quali Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Dallas Austin, Bill Bottrell e R. Kelly.
